At Born & Raised, every detail of the guest experience is intentional. From the striking architecture and interior design to the world-class menu and service, this renowned San Diego steakhouse was built to deliver an unforgettable dining atmosphere.

When it was time to refresh the venue's audio system, CH Projects partnered with Caneno Systems and 1 SOUND to ensure the acoustic landscape reflected that same meticulous craftsmanship.

Located in downtown San Diego, the 10,000-square-foot restaurant accommodates up to 250 guests across its main dining room, bar, and rooftop spaces. The goal? To create a premium audio environment capable of supporting everything from relaxed dinnertime jazz to high-energy late-night playlists—all while remaining visually discreet within the restaurant's carefully curated design by Basile Studio.

Designed Around the Architecture

Great sound shouldn't ruin a beautiful room. CH Projects and Caneno Systems worked closely with 1 SOUND throughout the design process to create a distributed audio system tailored specifically to the restaurant’s layout, acoustics, and aesthetic goals.

Utilizing the 1 SOUND Custom Shop, the team selected custom wood finishes and polished gold metal grilles that flawlessly complement the warm material palette found throughout the venue. Rather than sticking out as bulky tech, the loudspeakers feel like a natural, elegant extension of the interior architecture.

An Immersive, Distributed Dining Experience

To achieve an immersive but perfectly balanced listening environment, the team utilized a distributed installation approach:

• Perimeter Coverage: Cannon C6i loudspeakers surround the main dining room.

• Center Coverage: Discreet Level L35 loudspeakers are integrated seamlessly into the ceiling.

• Hidden Bass: To provide impactful low-frequency support without eating up valuable floor space, SUB28 subwoofers were cleverly concealed within banquet seating and custom furniture.

This setup ensures that whether a guest is seated at the bar or tucked away in a cozy dining booth, the music remains engaging without ever becoming overpowering.

Premium Sound, Rain or Shine

The high-fidelity experience doesn't stop indoors. It continues onto Born & Raised's stunning rooftop, which overlooks downtown San Diego.

To combat the coastal elements, the rooftop features marine-grade Cannon C6 loudspeakers and WSUB45 subwoofers. Finished in custom exterior wood and equipped with marine-grade stainless steel A4 316 components, these speakers are built to withstand the weather while perfectly complementing the restaurant's outdoor aesthetic. The result is a seamless audio transition as guests move from the main floor to the rooftop.
